Initial assessment of the feasibility of fall lifting ponderosa pine seedlings at Bend Pine Nursery, Oregon, involved calculating fall chilling hours and monitoring release of seedlings from dormancy. Seedlings lifted earliest failed to break bud, whereas budbreak was accelerated for trees lifted later in the fall. Results suggest that chilling was required to release seedlings from dormancy. |
