Proceedings of Past Forest Nursery Association Meetings:

Effects of Nursery Density on Shortleaf Pine
Brissette, John C.; Carlson, William C.
1987: Oklahoma City, OK
A technique to determine the effective nursery bed density of individual seedlings was developed and then used to evaluate density influence on shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata Mill.) bare-root seedlings. At lifting, mean height had increased while mean root collar diameter and root volume had decreased with increasing effective density. After the first growing season, seedlings produced at lower effective densities exhibited greater height and diameter growth than seedlings grown at higher effective densities.
